My first visit to Fairy Glen in Stonethwaite, tucked deep within the Lake District, was one of those moments. As I stood by the water, watching fairy-like damselflies dance above moss-draped rocks and glide effortlessly across emerald-green pools, I felt an unmistakable stillness settle in. Time slowed. My thoughts softened. And in that quiet, something clicked an epiphany, a gentle nudge from the universe.

I knew, right then, that I wanted to create something that could hold that feeling. A luxurious, comforting product I could smooth onto my sensitive skin and be transported back to that place again and again long after I had left the glen behind.

That moment was where Earthborn was born.

The name came first, rooted in the sense that this place felt ancient, alive, and deeply connected to the land. Something shaped by water, stone, and time. The Viridelle branding followed naturally, inspired by the rich green hues of the beck itself that luminous, almost unreal shade of green that only exists where water, moss, and light meet.

And then there was the scent.

Almost instinctively, it formed in my mind as I walked back through the valley. I couldn’t wait to get home and blend it, unsure if it would translate beyond memory. But when I finally mixed frankincense, neroli, and lime together, something magical happened. The aroma didn’t just work it transported me.

Suddenly, I was nine years old again, standing in my grandma’s treatment room, surrounded by her treasured essential oil collection. That familiar, comforting scent warm, citrus-soft, quietly grounding filled the air exactly as it had all those years ago. It smelled like her sanctuary. Like care. Like being held in a moment of calm.

Isn’t it funny how the mind does that? How it weaves together places, people, and memories into something entirely new and yet deeply familiar.
